Central idea (stand alone unit): People use a process to create art
Project Description: Students inquired into various art materials and tools for their first unit in art class. They used the design cycle to investigate, plan, create, and reflect on their artwork through this process. For this project, students inquired into watercolor paint. They began by drawing their first letter of their first name and then drew their ideal playground. Try to find the hidden letter in their artwork!
Color Weaving
Central idea (transdisciplinary): People communicate using various forms of expression.
Project Description: Students inquired into various forms of expression in their homeroom and specials classes. In art class, they inquired into color and how color can be used to express ourselves and our emotions. Students learned about primary colors, secondary colors, warm & cool colors, and complimentary colors. They created this artwork by painting using warm-colored liquid watercolors as the background. Students learned about different kinds of lines and weaved cool-colored paper lines into their warm-color background.
